- <p> Customs: Visas are required for entry and should be obtained
- before arrival; they are not available at the airport or other
- entry points. Also required are certificates of cholera and
- yellow fever inoculation. No restrictions are imposed on
- importing foreign currency, but Rwandan francs are used
- exclusively for all transactions.
- </p>
- <p> Health: Several qualified physicians practice in Kigali, and
- limited medicines are available. Recommended inoculations
- include tetanus, typhoid, polio, and gamma globulin. Tapwater is
- not potable. Avoid unpeeled raw fruits and vegetables and
- undercooked meats.
- </p>
- <p> Telecommunications: Cable service and long-distance telephone
- service are available.
- </p>
- <p> Transportation: Several weekly flights are available from
- African and European cities (especially Brussels); schedules are
- subject to change and should be confirmed at the preceding
- stopover before proceeding to Kigali. Rwanda has no railways.

- <p> National holidays: Businesses and the US Embassy may be
- closed on the following Rwandan national holidays:

- Monday*; Labor Day, May 1; Ascension Day*; Pentecost Monday*;
- National Day, July 1; Peace and National Unity Day, July 5;
- Harvest Day, August 1; Assumption Day, August 15; Referendum Day,
- September 25; Armed Forces Day, October 26; All Saints Day,
- November 1; Christmas Day, December 25.
